As has now been widely reported, David Shayman aka Disco D took his life in January 2007. Loosing David was mind blowing for us here at Kagi Media. Having shared in the excitement of his triumphs, challenges and victories in the final year of his life, our sense of loss has been profound.
From the first notice, we began grieving along with David's friends, family and the worldwide music communities that he was so notorious in. But we also felt a duty to aptly foster the awesome contributions he left with us; and to this world
BACKGROUND: Early 2006, we decided to make 2 movies with Disco D Productions (Davids' Production Company) and start a new division of Kagi Media: HUSTLE HARDER PRODUCTIONS. The first 2 movies under the HUSTLE HARDER moniker would be: an extended runtime Disco D instructional/documentary for the Music Production Community. And the second, a broadcast length Disco D documentary for his fan base or the Consumer Community.
DIRECTION: After David's death, we began the process of renegotiating the direction of the project. We concluded that we would maintain the original Kagi/Shayman vision, by releasing HUSTLE HARDER XXL; without any major edits to the cut that David had reviewed and approved just prior to his passing.
HUSTLE HARDER XXL will stand as a true to life account of the skills, business methods and teachings of Disco D.
PROCEEDS: ALL of David's profits from the sale of HUSTLE HARDER XXL go directly to David's Estate.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: Our way of remembering David is through of the celebration of his life. |
HUSTLE HARDER TRIBUTE: The forthcoming documentary which will be a broadcast length "life n' times" retrospective of Disco D for fans of Disco D. There is no projected release date at this time as we are still in the conceptual stages.

We are especially interested in perspective commentary from those who knew and worked with David. Using such media along with the many hours of footage we have on hand would enable us to tell David's story in an interesting way.

REFLECTIONS: David inspired me in many ways. Boldness, Intellect, Humanity, Heart and Skills. First time I saw him DJ I thought, this guy has got "it". As we worked together developing HUSTLE HARDER, we both felt like we were doing something really great. Our relationship had all the good stuff; creative energy, conflict, drama, shared joy and lots of talk about the future.
and then I got the call....
As I sat in my studio with 1000's of GIGs of footage we had recorded, his entire collection of musical works as soundtrack material, hundreds of emails we had exchanged and his AIM user profile staring at me from iChat; my feelings ranged from anger to guilt to just plain sadness.
In the few short months following the tragedy, I was left without David to complete our collaborative effort, reflecting on our conversations, the great times we had filming across 3 Continents, wishing I could have done more to help David, interacting with folks in David's inner circle and sorting out my own emotions as I moved ahead. In the end, I put everything I had into making HUSTLE HARDER what we both wanted it to be.
For everyone at Kagi Media, I would like to thank all the people who have helped us through the evolution of this project and the larger online community which has shown such a great deal of respect and thoughtful remembrances to David. And most of all, I thank David for giving so much of himself to the world!
